Danville, Va. - Sophomore Ryan Halliday notched his first goal and assist of the season on Wednesday, leading his NCWC men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory at Averett University in USA South action. The Bishops have now won five straight matches to climb above the .500 mark for the first time this season, and most importantly, remain tied for first place in the league's East Division standings at 5-1.

Prior to Halliday's trio of points, Bishop sophomore Baboucarr Njie got Wesleyan on the board with with a left-footed shot off a Joseph Brooks assist in the 21st minute. Senior Jordan Davis added another Bishop goal just four minutes later off a Halliday cross, and NCWC would take its 2-0 lead into the break.

The second half saw Halliday tally the period's lone score with an unassisted goal at the 49:33 mark. Freshman keeper Jordan Williams did the rest in net, making a pair of saves on six shots to secure the shutout. AU goalie Marius Olavesen notched a trio of stops on 13 Bishop shots. Wesleyan also owned a 3-0 advantage in corners on the night.

Next up for the Bishops is a road trip to league-newcomer Berea College on Saturday, followed by a key match-up versus West Division leader Maryville on Sunday.

The men's soccer victory highlighted a trio of mid-week conference action for Bishop sports. On Tuesday at Scalf Field, the NCWC women's soccer team fell to Methodist University by a 3-1 score. Wesleyan's lone goal came on a header by freshman Cydney Nichols off a Maddie Williams cross. Then on Wednesday, Wesleyan's volleyball team suffered a similar fate to the Monarchs, dropping a 3-1 decision on the road (25-19, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19). Freshman Callie Cline managed a team-high 11 kills, while sophomore Hannah Huls racked up a match-high 22 digs.

Women's soccer continues USA South play on Friday at Ferrum College, while volleyball hosts a conference tri-match on Saturday when Averett and Pfeiffer visit Everett Gym. The Bishops and Cougars begin play at noon.
