Bishops Win Seventh Straight with 3-0 Shutout of WPU

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's men's soccer team won its seventh straight match on Wednesday afternoon, shutting out William Peace University 3-0 to move to 8-5 overall, 7-1 in USA South play. The match marked the return of former Bishop assistant Ryan Huber to Scalf Field as head coach of the Pacers.

Scoring-wise, sophomore Kobi Boompong netted the eventual gamewinner in the 14th minute off an assist from current USA South Player of the Week Baboucarr Njie. Sophomore Ryan Halliday added an unassisted insurance goal at the 15:02 mark and later assisted on the match's final goal -- a Walid Yacoubou tally early in the second half (49').

The Bishops out-shot the Pacers 24-2 on the day, with freshman keeper Jordan Williams saving both WPU shots to secure the shutout. Christian Ortiz made nine saves to keep the Pacers in the match.

Wesleyan returns to action this weekend at Pfeiffer University and Maryville College on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
