Wesleyan Men Advance to Host USA South Tourney Final Rounds

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The 2017 USA South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament got underway on Saturday at Scalf Field as top-seeded N.C. Wesleyan knocked off 4th-seeded Ferrum by a 2-0 score. The Bishops are now set to host the tournament's semifinal and final rounds next Friday and Saturday, November 3rd and 4th.

Wesleyan tallied one goal in each half on Saturday to end the Panthers' season. Defender Joe Brooks netted the eventual gamewinner just ten minutes in off an assist from Baboubarr Njie. Sheriff Secka added a late insurance goal, unassisted, to provide the 2-0 final. Wesleyan held a 16-8 advantage in shots and 5-1 edge in corners. Both keepers made five saves in the match, with NCWC freshman Jordan Williams moving to 12-2 on the season by virtue of the shutout.

The Bishops advance to play the West Divison's #3 seed Covenant College next Friday at noon. The Scots advanced with a 3-0 win over 2nd-seeded Piedmont. Friday's match will mark the second meeting between the Bishops (13-5) and Scots (9-11-1) this season. NCWC previously posted a 4-0 victory over Covenant in September's USA South opener.

No pass lists will be honored for this USA South event. Tickets are $6/person, $3/student with ID. Live video and statistics will be available via www.ncwcsports.com.

Wesleyan's noon match-up with Covenant will be followed by the second semifinal at 3:00pm, featuring East #2 Greensboro and the winner of West #1 Maryville/#4 LaGrange. The winners of Friday's matches will advance to Saturday's championship to play for the league's automatic NCAA berth.
