Men’s Soccer loses heartbreaker to CNU

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The NC Wesleyan College Men's Soccer team returned home Wednesday for their home opener to host non-conference opponent Christopher Newport University at Scalf Field. Unfortunately, a late game comeback by CNU proved to be the difference as they went on to stun the Bishops 3-2.

CNU struck first scoring just three minutes into the game to take the early lead before NCW's junior midfielder Ryan Halliday tied the game for the Bishops with his unassisted goal in the 26th minute.

The Battling Bishops then would come out of the half and score the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute of play as freshman forward Cadribo Godfrey powered the Bishops as he beat the CNU keeper 1 on 1.

However, the Captains (3-0) would tie the game in the 83rd minute as they drove past the Wesleyan sophomore goalkeeper Tobias Borzel and into the net. CNU then added the game-winning goal just five minutes later to steal the win.

CNU would control the shot count as well outshooting the Bishops 12-8 for the game. Borzel would go on to make 3 saves on six shots on goal over 90 minutes.

NC Wesleyan (0-3) is not in action again until next Wednesday when they travel to Greensboro College to begin USA South play.
