Bishops Clinch 2 Seed in Soccer Tournament with win

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team clinched the East Division #2 seed by virtue of their 2-0 shutout win over conference rival Methodist University on a chilly Saturday afternoon from Scalf Field.

Freshman midfielder Dominique Giovannini got the Bishops off to a good start scoring less than 4 minutes into the game off an assist from Matteo Costa. The goal was his 4th of the season while the assist was also Costa's fourth. 

Wesleyan then continued to pressure the Monarchs throughout the half, but could not add an insurance goal as they led 7-1 in shots at the break.

Senior forward Sheriff Secka then scored early in the second half to pad the lead for the Battling Bishops. It was his 5th goal of the season in his first game back in 3 weeks.

Wesleyan would go on to outshoot the Monarchs 9-1 as they picked up their second win of the day over Methodist (7-8-2, 4-6-2) as the Bishop Football team was also victorious. Freshman Goalkeeper Tobias Borzel also made one save for his 4th shutout of the season.

NC Wesleyan finishes the conference season 8-3-1 in the USA South and 8-6-1 overall and will next host East Div. 3 Seed William Peace University on Tuesday at 3 PM in the Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.
