Men's Soccer suffers tough loss in USA South Semifinals; Genovese named to all-tourney team

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The 2nd seeded NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss in the USA South Conference semifinals on Friday evening on the road at top seeded Maryville College.

Maryville scored the game-winning goal in the 4th minute of the game off a deflection after their first two shots were saved by the Bishops. Wesleyan was outshot just 5-4 in the first half to the Scots, but came out firing in the second half to outshoot Maryville 9-3 as they applied pressure at the Scots keeper for the entire half. However, MC would once again sit back and play a defensive game while making five saves and keep the Battling Bishops off the scoreboard.

Bishop freshman and third team all-conference goalkeeper Tobias Borzel finished the match making 3 saves on 4 shots on goal while freshman Lucas Menzo led with 3 shots with sophomore forward Aly Cadet putting his two shots on goal. Freshman defender Enzo Genovese was also named to the USA South Men's Soccer All-Tournament Team as well.

The 2017 tournament champion Bishops will finish 2018 with a record of 9-7-1 while Maryville improves to 13-3-1. Maryville will next host West 2nd seed Covenant in the conference finals on Saturday at 6 PM.
