DANVILLE, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the second half to steal a 2-1 win on the road at Averett University on Saturday afternoon.
Averett scored first in the 52nd minute off a free kick but the Bishops would come right back 6 minutes later tying it up off an own goal by Averett's defender off a free kick from senior captain Jack Holden.
Wesleyan then scored the game winner in the 67th minute as sophomore forward Augustin Rodriguez scored unassisted off a rebound from his original shot that the Averett keeper saved.
NCWC outshot the Cougars 9-5 in the first half and 13-2 in the second while senior keeper Tobias Borzel made 3 saves on 4 shots on goal. Rodriguez and sophomore midfielder Juan Simoniello each led the Bishops with six shots apiece inthe win.
Wesleyan improves to 3-5-2 overall and 1-0 in the USA South while Averett falls to 4-6 and 0-1.
The Bishops return to action on Tuesday when they head to Greensboro College for a 7 PM tilt.
