ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team held off a feisty Mary Baldwin team en route to a 1-0 conference win at home on Saturday.

A scoreless first half saw NCWC lead just 4-3 in shots over MBU as neither team had quality chances in the first half.

Wesleyan then broke through early in the second half as sophomore midfielder Juan Simoniello fired a strike past a leaping MBU keeper into the net for the only goal of the match. The goal came off an assist from senior captain, defender Jack Holden. The goal was Simoniello's 2nd of the season.

Wesleyan then could not put any insurance goals on the board as Orri Bjornsson's second half shot hit the post. However, Wesleyan held off a last minute charge from the Fighting Squirrels as MBU could never quite get a quality shot off as NCWC grabbed the conference win.

Senior keeper Tobias Borzel made 2 saves on 2 shots on goal as he improves to 3-1 on the year on a quiet afternoon as the four defenders in front of him played well. The Bishops outshot the Squirrels 15-7 overall.

Wesleyan improves to 4-6-2 on the year and 2-1 in the conference while dropping MBU to 4-7-1 and 1-2.

NCWC returns to conference action on Wednesday when they travel down to Methodist for a 7PM night match.
