Bishops Stun 16th-Ranked Bates College, 7-2

Fredericksburg, Va. - The men's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan won its fourth straight match on Thursday evening, stunning 16th-ranked Bates College in a 7-2 rout. Senior Robert Kjellberg, along with freshmen Sebastian Sikh and Andres Gomez, remained undefeated versus nationally-ranked opponents with a trio of singles victories.

The Bishops took a 2-1 lead in doubles play as Kjellberg/Sikh and Gomez/Fabio Pereira posted 8-2 and 8-4 wins at #1 and #3 doubles, respectively. Bates managed to take #2 doubles by an 8-5 tally.

In singles play, Kjellberg needed three sets to take down BC's Pierre Planche (7-5, 5-7, 6-3), while Sikh and Pereira were straight-set winners. Pereira's victory, in fact, proved to be Wesleyan's fifth point and clinched the match.

Fernando Nardelli and Gomez went on to notch points at #4 and #5 singles in straights.

NCWC (5-3) returns to USA South action at home on Saturday against USA South foe Ferrum College. The match is slated for a 2:00pm start at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Complex.
