Men's Tennis Falls at UNC-Charlotte in Season Opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team dropped their season opener 5-2 at D-1 UNC-Charlotte on the road Friday afternoon at the Lifetime Indoor Fitness Center.

Picking up wins for the Bishop men were senior Roberto Puig at #2 singles and freshman John Falke at #5 singles.

UNCC got out to a 1-0 lead after weeping all three doubles matches 6-2, 6-3, and 6-2. Charlotte then clinched the match win by grabbing wins at #1 singles, #3 singles, and #6 singles.

Puig dropped his first set 6-2 before rallying to win in two tiebreakers. He won the second set 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker) and then 10-7 in the third set tiebreak. Falke took his first set win at 6-4 before falling 4-6 in the second set. He then won a third set tiebreak as well 11-9.

Sophomore Augusto Roca fell 2-6, 2-6 at #4 singles while juniors Jhonny Acosta and Juan Vallejo, and freshman Valentin Mussi also dropped their singles matches. 

UNCC improves to 4-3 on the season while Wesleyan is at 0-1.

The Battling Bishops will next get back on the court two weeks from now when they head to Tennessee to battle Sewanee University on Feb. 26 and 27.
