Men's Tennis Defeats SVU 8-1

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team put away a quality D-3 opponent on Monday defeating Southern Virginia 8-1 at home.

Wesleyan led 2-1 after the doubles winning at the #2 and #3 positions as the duos of juniors Juan Vallejo and Jhonny Acosta won 8-2 at the second line while the duo of Max Robinson and Valentin Mussi won 8-3 at the third line. Senior Roberto Puig and freshman John Falke fell 8-4 at the top line.

In the singles, Wesleyan was led by Puig and Falke as they each won thrilling three-set matches while Acosta and Mussi cruised by their opponents 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively. Vallejo and Valentin Ancieto also won in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-4 as Ancieto clinched the match with his win while the Bishops swept the singles matches. 

Puig won his match 6-4, 2-6 and then 11-9 in the third set tiebreaker while Falke, the conference's Rookie of the Week, won 6-4, 4-6 and 10-6 in the tiebreak.

Wesleyan improves to 5-2 with their fifth straight win and 5-0 vs. DII and DIII opponents.

They will next be in action on Friday when they head to CNU for a 2 PM match.
