Tennis Coaches Brice and Rowe Named Regional Coaches of the Year while Acosta Named Player of the Year

The 8th ranked North Carolina Wesleyan men's tennis program received three of the five Atlantic South Regional Awards that were announced last week.

Head Men's Tennis Coach Albie Brice and assistant coach Matt Rowe were each named ITA Regional Coach and Assistant of the Year while senior All-American Jhonny Acosta was named the senior ITA Regional Player of the Year.

*The Bishop men, who fell 5-3 to 3rd ranked Tufts University in the NCAA Round of 16 in May, finished the year ranked #8 in the country and 1st in the Atlantic South Region, according to the ITA, ahead of such teams as rivals Emory and Johns Hopkins. The final national ranking earned NCWU an invitation to participate in the 2023 ITA National Team Indoor Championships next February 24-26 at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.

The Historic national final ranking was the highest ranking in NC Wesleyan school history.

*Individually, All-American and National Quarterfinalist Jhonny Acosta finished 8th in the final national ranking of the year with 22 wins. Acosta also finished 2nd in the Atlantic South region final rankings behind only national finalist Vishnu Joshi of Johns Hopkins.

*Acosta and freshman doubles teammate Diego Segovia finished the year ranked 20th in the nation as a doubles team while they were ranked 3rd in the South Region.

*In the final regional singles rankings, sophomore John Falke was also ranked behind #2 Acosta in 18th as well.
