Men's Track Competes Again at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Track & Field teams traveled to UNC Wilmington on Friday to participate in the Teal Seahawk Invitational that consisted of Division 1, 2 and 3 colleges, including some USA South schools.

Some Bishops improved on their performance from the week prior, as junior Maleik Small improved his 1500 meter time by 3 seconds and ran a 4:40 to place 9th while junior Keyonte Williams improved from a 5:01 to a 4:50 time to place 13th. Placing the highest for Wesleyan in the 1500 meters was freshman Chris Sielkowski who placed 8th in a time of 4:39 while junior Terenthen Parker also ran well finishin 10th in 4:41.

Parker then took the top spot for the Bishops in the 800 meters finishing 13th out of 22 in a time of 2:15 while Small, Sielkowski, and Williams all finished 15th, 16th, and 17th in times ranging from 2:16-2:21. Senior Andrew Bowen ran a nice 5K run as well placing 7th in 17:34.

Senior Blaise Gourley then stepped into his second-ever 100 meter race and ran half a second faster than he ran in his first ever 100 meter race with a time of 12.4 seconds as he virtually tied for 25th with sophomore teammate Joseph Turner, who also ran a time of 12.4 seconds.

Turner and Gourley also tied for 25th place with times of 24.9 seconds in the 200 meter dash as well.

There was only 1 relay team that NC Wesleyan competed in and that was the men's 4x400 meter relay. A team consisting of Small, Parker, Sielkowski, and Strange ran a time of 3:46 to palce 5th and were led by Small who ran a 53 second split.

Freshman Noah Strange also competed in the 400 meters and finished 20th in 1 minute flat.

"Today we took a step forward in getting better," said coach Marshall Leonard.  "We talk about consistently improving, and today we saw that across the board with every individual. We have a long way to go to get to where we want to be, but all these student athletes are working hard to get there."
