Men's Cross Country Finishes 3rd at Monarch Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's cross country team finished 3rd out of 9 teams at the 5th annual Monarch XC Classic hosted by Methodist University on Saturday. 

Host Methodist won the 8K (5 miles) meet followed by D2 Francis Marion in second while NCWC and Johnson & Wales tied for third with 99 points. They were then followed by Central Carolina in 5th, William Peace in 6th Fayetteville St. in 7th, and Patrick Henry in 8th. 

Wesleyan was led by junior Philly Barungi finishing in 12th place overall (6th among D-3) with a time of 30:57 in the 8K. He was then followed by freshman Ayden Harper in 15th with a time of 31:56. Coming in after that were seniors Maleik Small and Keyonte Williams back-to-back in 22nd and 23d places. Small ran a time of 33:42 while Williams finished in 34:05.

Junior Terenthen Parker then came in 35th place in 36:57 while freshman Noel Meza was the last finisher for the Bishops coming in 40th in the 50-man race with a personal-best time of 39:07.

The Bishops will next have a week off before competing in the Greensboro Invitational on the 25th.
