Bishop Softball Posts 3-2 Walk-Off Win over Quakers

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Junior Jasmine Edgren singled home senior Sarah Roberts in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift N.C. Wesleyan's softball team to a 3-2 walk-off victory over Guilford College in Wednesday's opener at Edge Field. The Quakers bounced back for a 3-1 win in the nightcap to secure the split.

In game one, NCWC went up 1-0 early on a sac-fly RBI by Roberts that scored freshman Katelyn Checkan. Guilford bounced back with a pair of unearned runs in the third to go up 2-1, but sophomore Tiffany Manning's RBI-double in the fourth scored Carla Matthews to eventually force extras.

Edgren notched a complete game by sitting down the Quakers 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth, setting the stage for her own heroics in the bottom of the frame. With two outs and Roberts on second, Edgren fouled off seven pitches before delivering the game-winning single to left center. With the win in the circle, she moves to 5-2 on the season.

Manning and senior Kendra Hoes had two hits apiece for the Bishops.

Game two saw Quaker hurler Ashley Boteler toss a complete-game, one-hitter en route to the 3-1 victory. Hoes tallied NCWC's lone hit in the fourth inning and later scored on a GC error.

Despite a solid outing, freshman Tori Paul (0-2) took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs (two earned) over five innings of work.

Wesleyan (6-10) hits the road for a trio of USA South twinbills on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The Bishops will face Covenant, Piedmont and Maryville, respectively.
