NCWC Softball Suffers Pair of Sweeps at Covenant & Piedmont

Lookout Mountain, Ga. / Demorest, Ga. - N.C. Wesleyan's softball team suffered a pair of road sweeps at USA South foes Covenant and Piedmont on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Bishops now stand at 4-6 in conference play.

At Covenant on Friday, Wesleyan fell by 8-1 and 6-5 scores to the Scots. Covenant broke a 1-1 tie with seven runs in the 6th inning of game one, while game two saw the Bishops' 7th-inning rally fall just short. Senior Tiffany Manning went 4-for-4 in the nightcap to pace the NCWC offense.

At Piedmont on Saturday, the Bishops out-hit the Lions in the opener 5-4 but suffered a tough 2-0 defeat. PC went on to overcome a 6-2 deficit in the finale with eight runs in their final four at-bats to steal the 10-7 victory. Senior Lindsey Sharpe led Wesleyan's offense with a 3-for-4 performance that included a homerun, double, and three RBIs.

Wesleyan returns home on Tuesday to host league rival Averett University. Game one is slated for 2:00pm at Edge Field.
