Rocky Mount, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team picked up a pair of USA South sweeps over the weekend, downing Wesleyan (Ga.) on Saturday and Agnes Scott on Sunday. The Bishops honored their parents prior to Saturday's game with the Wolves, while Sunday's Cancer Awareness Day featured a ceremonial first pitch by NCWC's Director of Security and recent cancer survivor Wayne Sears.

Versus Wesleyan on Saturday, the opener saw junior Kaitlyn Checkan deliver a two-run blast to left in the bottom of the 5th that gave the Bishops an 8-0 win. Starter Logan Lowery and senior Lindsey Sharpe combined for the 4-hit shutout in the circle, with Sharpe earning her first save of the season.

Game two featured a solid outing by sophomore Shelby Godwin, who went the distance and struck out six en route to a 5-hit shutout. Offensively, sophomore Hannah Ivester was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in, including the eventual gamewinner, as NCWC rolled to the 3-0 victory.

On Sunday versus Agnes Scott, the Bishops again enjoyed a five-inning 8-0 victory in the opener. Lowery (9-8) tossed a hitless four innings, with Sharpe allowing just one hit in her lone inning of work. Brittany Manning, Alicia Burns, and Godwin each drove in two runs in the win.

The finale was again all Bishops in a 7-0 victory. Godwin (6-6) went the distance en route to her second straight shutout, while Burns was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Bishops (15-15, 11-7 USA South) travel to Salem College on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 3:00pm.
