Rocky Mount, N.C. - Head Coach John Brackett picked up the 500th win of his coaching career on Saturday afternoon at Edge Field when his Battling Bishop softball team posted a 6-1 victory over Methodist University. The milestone victory came in the opening game of their USA South twinbill, which saw the Monarchs take game two by a 3-2 score and avoid the sweep.

In the opener, senior Peyton Hyler got NCWC on the board with an RBI-double in the first, and the Bishops proceeded to put up a 4-spot in the second behind RBIs from Kaeli Farnsworth, Meredith Mize, and Hyler. Senior Sarah Bowyer made it 6-0 in the third with an RBI-triple that plated Hannah Ivester.

The 6-run lead was more than enough for starting pitcher Logan Lowery (3-4). The senior went the distance in the circle, allowing just one run on seven hits with nine strikeouts. Bowyer finished 3-for-3 and freshman Kayla Molivas 2-for-2 at the plate to pace Wesleyan's offense.

Unfortunately, the nightcap proved to be a game of missed opportunities for the Bishops, who stranded 11 runners over seven innings. The Monarchs were able to hold on for the 3-2 win, escaping several jams in the late innings.

Freshman hurler Beth Braswell (5-3) took the loss, allowing three runs (all in the first inning) on five hits with five Ks.

Wesleyan (11-7, 4-2 USA South) travels to non-conference foe Guilford College on Wednesday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:00pm in Greensboro.
