    The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 48th Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 24th, in the Garner Lobby of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2012-2013 season.
  • Wesleyan Hoops Season Ends in Tourney Semifinals

    The N.C. Wesleyan women's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2013 USA South Conference Tournament. The 4th-seeded Bishops dropped a hardfought 79-70 decision to top-seeded Ferrum College, marking the end of the careers of four-year seniors Samantha Urquhart and Leann Breeden.
  • Bishop Women Advance with 68-63 Win over Monarchs

    For the first time since the 2001 season, the N.C. Wesleyan women's basketball team has advanced to the semifinals of the USA South Conference Tournament. The 4th-seeded Bishops did so with a 68-63 over 5th-seeded Methodist University on Friday at Fayetteville's Crown Center Arena. Senior Samantha Urquhart was simply dominant, notching a double-double of 20 points and 18 rebounds.
  • USA South Tournaments Set to Tip-Off in Fayetteville

    The 2013 USA South Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments are set to tip-off in Fayetteville, N.C. Each tournament will feature the league's top eight teams and will be conducted in Fayetteville's Crown Center Arena. The men's tournament will begin on Thursday, February 21, while the women's tournament will kick off on Friday, February 22.
  • Urquhart Garners USA South All-Conference Honors

    The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2012-2013 All-Conference awards for women's basketball with a total of 31 student-athletes earning honors. N.C. Wesleyan's Samantha Urquhart was a Second Team selection after leading the Bishops in scoring at 12.5 points per game, marking the third All-Conference honor of her career.
  • Bishops Honor Seniors, Down Mary Baldwin 75-47

    The North Carolina Wesleyan women's basketball team honored its 2013 senior class on Sunday afternoon, then posted a dominating 75-47 victory over Mary Baldwin College in the regular season finale for both teams. Four-year letterwinners Leann Breeden and Samantha Urquhart rose to the occasion, as Breeden turned in her first career double-double and Urquhart became the program's career leader in free throws made with 374.
  • Breeden, Urquhart Pace NCWC in 65-48 Win over AU

    Seniors Leann Breeden and Samantha Urquhart each turned in solid performances on Wednesday night, helping lead their Battling Bishop women's basketball team to a 65-48 win over Averett University in USA South action. Breeden pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds and knocked down a pair of key treys in the second half, while Urquhart notched her third straight double-double with 20 points and 13 boards. Wesleyan is now 10-7 in league play.
  • NCWC Men and Women Drop League Hoops Pair

    North Carolina Wesleyan saw its men's and women's basketball teams drop a pair of USA South contests on Sunday. The Battling Bishop women suffered a tough 69-65 home loss to Greensboro College, while Wesleyan's men fell at LaGrange by a 94-86 score.

    Senior Samantha Urquhart has become the 11th women's basketball player in North Carolina Wesleyan history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career. Urquhart accomplished the notable feat with a team-high 19 points on Saturday at Piedmont, and then began her climb up the all-time scoring list with 17 points in Sunday's thrilling 89-86 come-from-behind win over LaGrange.

    The Battling Bishop women's basketball team shocked #16 Christopher Newport on Wednesday night, upsetting the previously unbeaten Captains by a 69-68 score in Everett Gymnasium. Senior Samantha Urquhart turned in a stellar game with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Monet Edwards and Netaih Davis added 10 points apiece.

Junior guard Shanice Goree got hot at the right time, knocking down a pair of key three-pointers in the second half to help her Bishops secure the win and move to 3-1 in conference play.

Junior Shanice Goree turned in a solid all-around performance with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals in the losing effort.

Sophomore Courtney Small turned in a solid all-around performance with 11 points, a team-high eight rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot.

    Senior Samantha Urquhart scored her team’s final six points, including the game-winning free throw with .2 seconds on the clock, to give her Battling Bishops a 79-78 win over Piedmont College on Saturday afternoon in Everett Gym. The game was the USA South opener for both squads.

    In Tuesday night's non-conference women's basketball action, the Apprentice School shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half to turn a four-point deficit into a nine-point win over the Battling Bishops, 65-56.
  • Wesleyan Women Pick Up First Win at Turkey Shoot

    North Carolina Wesleyan women's basketball picked up its first win of the 2012-13 season over the weekend, downing Hood College by a 63-59 score on Saturday at the 2012 Methodist University Turkey Shoot. The Bishops later fell to #13 Mary Washington on Sunday, 58-48, in a game that was much closer than the final score might indicate.
  • Urquhart, Bishops Open Season at Guilford Tourney

    Senior Samantha Urquhart averaged nearly 18 points and 9 rebounds a game, but it would not be enough as her Battling Bishop women's basketball team dropped a pair of contests at the Daly Seven Hotels Classic hosted by Guilford College. Wesleyan fell to the host Quakers by a 70-54 tally in Saturday's season opener, then dropped a 74-60 decision to Roanoke on Sunday.
  • USAS Basketball Tournaments Head to Fayetteville

    The USA South Athletic Conference has announced a partnership with the Fayetteville, North Carolina Area Convention & Visitors Bureau to host the 2013, 2014 and 2015 USA South Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments. Each tournament will feature the league's top-eight teams and will be conducted over a four-day period in Fayetteville's Crown Center Arena. Additionally, a portion of the tournament ticket sales are designated to assist needy military families.
  • Hall of Fame Inductions Highlight 2012 Homecoming

    North Carolina Wesleyan celebrated its 2012 Homecoming on Saturday, and the day was full of notable highlights. A pair of USA South soccer wins coupled with Commissioner Rita Wiggs' halftime presentation at the Bishops' football game made for an exciting day, while the Department of Athletics annual Hall of Fame inductions capped off a memorable night in Rocky Mount.
  • Clark and Driver Join N.C. Wesleyan Coaching Staff

    The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce two additions to its coaching staff, and neither is a stranger to Battling Bishop athletics. Former NCWC standout Greg Clark has joined the baseball staff as head coach of Wesleyan's junior varsity squad, while Desiree' Driver has returned to the Bishop sidelines as assistant coach for women's basketball.
  • Bishops Honor Local Heroes With 9/11 Passes

    September 11th is a time for remembering our fallen heroes from New York to Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C. It is also a time to recognize those local heroes that risk their lives daily to insure the safety of our Rocky Mount community. For this reason, the student-athletes of North Carolina Wesleyan annually honor our local policemen and firefighters by distributing season passes for all Battling Bishop sporting events.
  • Athletics Announces 2012 Hall of Fame Class

    Since 1999, North Carolina Wesleyan College has honored 51 former athletes, administrators, teams, coaches and contributors by enshrining them in its Athletics Hall of Fame. These individuals have created a higher standard for Battling Bishop athletics and were selected based on their outstanding accomplishments and/or contributions to the College. This year’s class meets these same standards and will comprise the 14th group of honorees. The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Misty Carneal of women’s basketball, Jennifer Foreman of women’s soccer and Mark Silletti of baseball have been chosen to comprise its 2012 Hall of Fame class.
