Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan kicked off its 2014-15 women's basketball slate over the weekend by hosting its annual Jean Edge Classic in Everett Gymnasium. The Battling Bishops and Pride of Greensboro College both went 2-0, picking up wins over ODAC opponents Emory & Henry College and Hollins University. The pair of wins marks Wesleyan's first time going undefeated in the tourney.

Play kicked off on Saturday with Greensboro earning a 79-67 win over E&H behind a team-high 19 points from Shanita Hampton. GC's Syerra Troutman chipped in 16 points, while Karina Farr paced the Wasps with 14 points and seven rebounds.

The second match-up featured the Bishops and Hollins, and HU looked to spoil NCWC's home opener by forging a 16-point lead early in the second half. A young Wesleyan team, however, out-scored its opponent 26-10 over the next 12 minutes to knot the score at 53-53 with 6:39 to go. The run saw four different players connect from behind the arc, including freshman Shekinah Huggins, sophomore Alexis Fitzgerald and senior Derreon Cole. Sophomore Kenyata Harris capped the rally with a 3-for-3 showing a the charity stripe after getting fouled on a three-point attempt.

From there, the two teams traded leads over the next four minutes, with Hollins holding a slim 62-60 advantage with 2:52 to go. A lay-up by Bishop senior NeTaih Davis tied the score at the 1:29 mark, and free throw by freshman Synquis Strothers put Wesleyan on top for good, 63-62, with 1:05 left. Harris and Cole combined to go 4-for-4 at the charity stripe in the final minute to seal the 67-64 victory.

Harris picked up where she left off as last season's USA South Rookie of the Year, turning in a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Cole joined her double-figures with 14 points, while sophomore Jordan Cager added nine of her own. Jewellanna Parfitt paced Hollins with 14 points.

On Sunday, Greensboro dominated Hollins from the tip en route to a 64-41 win. Hampton again led the Pride with 17 points, while Parfitt added 11 for Hollins.

The tourney's final game pitted the Bishops against the Wasps in a contest that would not lack excitement from start to finish. The game featured 14 lead changes and 11 ties, the 7th one coming on a Harris trey at the first half buzzer to knot the score at 40-40 at the break.

The Bishops went on to lead by as many as nine midway the second half, but an 18-4 run by the Wasps turned the tables on Wesleyan and gave E&H its largest lead, 67-62, with 5:51 remaining. NCWC battled back to force the game's 10th tie, 71-71, at the 2:47 mark, while a Cole jumper with 1:44 to go would eventually put her team up for good, 74-72.

The Bishops again iced the game at the line in the final minute, with Harris and Davis combining to go 5-for-6 at the charity stripe to secure the 79-77 win. Harris finished with 17 points, and Huggins joined her in double-figures with 10. Additionally, freshman KeChae Parker pulled down 10 rebounds, while Farr finished with a double-double of 10 points and 13 boards.

At the conclusion of the tournament, the following players were named to the 2014 Jean Edge All-Classic Team:
