Wesleyan Women Drop Pair to Guilford and CNU

Rocky Mount, N.C. / Newport News, Va. - After opening the season with back-to-back wins at the Jean Edge Classic, the Battling Bishop women's basketball team returned to action on Saturday and Tuesday, dropping a pair of non-conference contests to Guilford and Christopher Newport, respectively. Freshman KeChae Parker averaged eight points and a team-best nine rebounds over the two-game span, shooting over 62 percent from the floor in the process.

In Saturday's game versus Guilford, the Bishops shot just 28 percent on the day and got out-rebounded 54-41 en route to a 68-45 defeat. Senior NeTaih Davis was the lone Wesleyan player to reach double-figures with 10 points off the bench.

Tuesday's road opener saw the Bishops bounce back with a much-better performance versus a talented CNU squad that received votes in the latest Top-25 national poll.

The first half featured five lead changes and five ties, the latter coming at 17-17 with 7:47 left in the period. The Captains proceeded to close out the half with a 13-7 run to take a 30-24 lead into the break. Wesleyan got as close as four points on three occasions in the second half, but CNU would eventually pull away for the 15-point victory, 78-63.

Sophomore Kenyata Harris led a trio of Bishops in double-figures with 13 points. Parker and senior Derreon Cole chipped in ten apiece, while Parker pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Wesleyan (2-2) opens USA South Conference play next Monday when the Bishops travel to William Peace University. Tip-off is slated for 7:00pm in Raleigh.
