Rocky Mount, N.C. - Up 55-45 with 5:34 to play, the Battling Bishop women's basketball team looked poised to pick up its second USA South win of the season on Sunday afternoon in Everett Gym. Unfortunately, the Cougars of Averett University had other ideas, using a 13-2 run over a two-minute span down the stretch to erase the deficit and secure an eventual 65-62 win.

The Bishops led by as many as 15 in the first half, forging a 23-8 advantage with just over seven minutes left. Averett proceeded to outscore Wesleyan 19-8 to close out the period, which ended with a catch-and-shoot trey by Alexis Sollars with 0.8 seconds remaining.

The second half saw both teams make runs, and although the Cougars got as close as one point on three occasions, they would not hold their first lead of the game until the 3:18 mark when a Jessica Myers' lay-up put them on top 58-57. The two teams traded baskets before a three-pointer by sophomore Kenyata Harris gave Wesleyan a 62-60 edge with 1:06 to go.

From there, Wesleyan was unable to get a shot to fall, while Averett knocked down 5-of-6 attempts at the free throw line on their next three possessions to retake the lead and seal the win.

Harris finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman KeChae Parker netted a team-high 12 points. Averett's defense held Parker scoreless in the second half after doing the same to Harris in the first. Freshmen McKenzi Bess and Shekinah Huggins joined them in double-figures with 10 points each.

For AU (2-3, 1-0 USA South), Jonna Koski tallied a game-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. The difference in the game came at the charity stripe where the Cougars connected on 15-of-18 attempts and NCWC went just 8-of-17.

Wesleyan (3-4, 1-1 USA South) will now break for the holidays before returning to action on January 3rd versus Piedmont College. Tip-off is slated for 4:00pm in Everett Gym.
