Wesleyan Drops League Pair to Lions and Angels

Rocky Mount, N.C. - In their first action since the holiday break, the women's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan dropped a pair of USA South contests over the weekend in Everett Gymnasium. The Bishops fell to Piedmont College by an 88-74 tally on Saturday, then dropped a 61-48 decision to Meredith on Sunday.

Versus Piedmont on Saturday, the Lions (9-1, 3-0 USA South) held a slim 38-33 lead at the half and went on to out-score Wesleyan 50-41 over the final 20 minutes en route to the 14-point victory.

The Bishops were led by sophomores Kenyata Harris and Alexis Fitzgerald, who each netted 16 points on the day. Freshman Kechae Parker notched a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Against Meredith on Sunday, it was Wesleyan that forged a slim advantage at the break, 27-21. Meredith battled back, however, and with the game tied 41-41 with 7:25 to go, the Angels (2-6, 1-1 USA South) put together a 20-6 run to close out the game and steal the victory. Jessi Hayes scored 16 of MC's points during the game-changing span.

Hayes finished with 27 points to lead all players, while Harris paced the Bishops with 12 points. Sophomore Jordan Cager also reached double-figures with 11 points, and senior NeTaih Davis turned in a second straight game with 10+ rebounds with 13 on the day.

Wesleyan (3-6, 1-3 USA South) now has a quick turnaround in store... the Bishops will play host to William Peace University on Tuesday night. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm in Everett Gym.
