Bishops Announce Plans to Support 2016 Play 4Kay Initiative

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Throughout the month of February, college and universities across the nation are dedicated to raising awareness of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's mission of supporting scientific research focused in women's cancers. The annual Play 4Kay initiative provides coaches and student-athletes the opportunity to "come together as one" to support this worthy cause both on the court and in their communities.

North Carolina Wesleyan is proud to join in this effort by hosting a pair of Play 4Kay games: Saturday, February 13th, versus Mary Baldwin College and Sunday, February 14th versus Meredith College. The Bishops, who will be sporting pink shooting shirts throughout the month, will be selling those same shirts for $15 at the door, and in lieu of admission, fans are encouraged to make a donation. All proceeds from t-shirt sales, as well as all donations collected, will be given to the Kay Yow Fund.

Additionally, NCWC will also be wearing pink uniforms during those two contests to show their support of Kay Yow's mission. Both games are slated for 2:00pm tip-offs.

Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised over $5.18 million to support women's cancer research. Coach Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away on January 24, 2009 after facing her third bout with the disease.

With the creation of the Fund, Coach Yow hoped to raise money to further cutting-edge research conducted by the nation's top doctors and medical experts. Most recently, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund created a Play 4Kay video to tell the story of Coach Yow and her vision. To view the video, click here.
