Parker and Staton Garner USA South All-Conference Honors

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South has released its postseason awards in the sport of women's basketball with a total of ten players in each division earning recognition. N.C. Wesleyan had a pair of Bishops garner Second Team accolades as junior KeChae Parker and senior Timyra Staton were each honored for the first time in their careers.

Parker led the Bishops in both scoring and rebounding during the regular season, averaging 13.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. The Henderson, N.C. native ranked in the top-10 in the league in scoring, as well as in steals with a team-best 50.  Parker, who turned in a career-high 30 point game early in the season, has racked up six double-doubles on the season thusfar, including a string of four straight in conference play.

An area product of Nashville, N.C., Staton enjoyed a tremendous senior season that saw her rank second on the team in scoring and rebounding at 11.9 points and 7.3 boards per contest. Additionally, her 45.2 field goal percentage was tops on the squad and ranked in the top-15 in the conference. Staton, who's season was highlighted by a 29-point, 13-rebound performance versus rival Methodist, finished with a team-best seven double-doubles in the regular season.

Elsewhere around the league, Ferrum College's Zarkia Mattox was named the Player of the Year, while her coach, Bryan Harvey, earned Coach of the Year honors. Agnes Scott's Garis Grant collected Rookie of the Year accolades to conclude the individual honors.

Parker and Staton will now lead Wesleyan into the 2017 USA South Tournament. The Bishops, who currently boast a 5-1 record in the month of February, enter as the East Division's #4 seed. Wesleyan heads to top-seeded Ferrum next Saturday where they will face the 5th-seeded Pacers of William Peace University. First round divisional play will tip off at 4:00pm, with the winner set to take on the host Panthers in Sunday's quarterfinal round.
