Battling Bishops Drop Pair in Women's Hoops Weekend Action

Rocky Mount, N.C. / Lynchburg, Va. - The NCWC women's basketball team dropped a pair of contests over the weekend, falling to Averett University at home on Friday before dropping a non-conference tilt at Lynchburg College on Sunday.

On Friday versus Averett, the Cougars took advantage of a poor shooting performance by Wesleyan in the first half to forge a 39-17 lead at the break. The Bishops, however, came out on fire in the third quarter and used a 25-6 run to get as close a five points on two occasions, the latter coming at 51-46 with 2:41 left in the period. Unfortunately, the Cougars countered with an 11-0 run that spanned the final two minutes of the third and first two of the fourth to go back up double-digits, and NCWC would not recover en route to an 82-59 defeat.

Senior KeChae Parker paced Wesleyan with nine points and nine rebounds, while AU's Samm Chandler led all scorer's with 26 points on the night.

At Lynchburg on Sunday, the Bishops out-scored the Hornets 41-40 in the second half but again fell victim to first half scoring woes, eventually falling by a 70-62 score. Parker led a trio of Bishops in double-figures with 14 points, while freshmen Kayla Johnson and Javana Jones added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Wesleyan (2-6, 1-2 USA South) continues non-conference play on Wednesday at Shenandoah University. Tip-off is slated for 7:00pm.
