Bishop Women outlast Hollins in home opener

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team put on an offensive explosion in the second half to pull away from non-conference foe Hollins University (VA) 74-59 in their first game of the 2018 Jean Edge Classic hosted by the Bishops on Saturday.

Led by guard Kayla Johnson's 15 points, the Bishops outscored Hollins 27-8 in the third quarter to increase their 6-point halftime lead to 25 points by the end of the third. Johnson also finished with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Wesleyan ended up shooting 45 percent overall for the game while holding Hollins to just 35 percent shooting throughout for the win. NCWC also shot 30 percent from three while out-rebounding Hollins 45-36.

Guard Daijah Davis also finished in double-figure scoring with 12 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Fellow guard Keorra Taylor then led the team with 5 assists and 4 steals while adding 9 points and 4 rebounds as well.

Forward Arreon Walter also finished with 9 points along with 5 rebounds while sophomore guard Cydney Nichols led the Bishops with 7 rebounds along with adding 5 points and 2 helpers.

Wesleyan, now 1-1, will next host Stevenson University (MD) (1-2) on Sunday at 2 PM in the next game of the Edge Classic.
