Bishops fall at Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team dropped their non-conference game at Virginia Wesleyan University 68-50 on the road Tuesday evening.

A low-scoring first quarter saw the Marlins lead 12-10 before extending their lead to 10 at halftime 32-22 as they held the Bishops to 25 percent shooting in the first and 21 percent inthe second quarter. 

In the second half, Wesleyan was consistent scoring 14 points in each quarter including shooting 41 percent in the 4th, but could not climb back into the game as VW shot 54 percent in the third. However, NCWC did hold the Marlins to just 16 percent shooting from three as they only made two 3-pointers whereas the Bishops made 6 of 17 threes (35%), but only 11 other shots as they fell to 1-3 on the year.

Senior guard Nadiya Holley led Wesleyan with 16 points and 6 rebounds along with 3 three-pointers and an assist. Fellow guard Keorra Taylor also scored 9 points with 2 rebounds and a steal while sophomore Cydney Nichols and senior guard Daijah Davis each registered 8 points apiece. Davis also had team-highs in assists with 3 and steals with 2 while Nichols added 5 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

The Bishop women return to action next Tuesday at home to host Mary Washington University (Va.) at 6 PM.
