ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team was back in action at home on Tuesday evening as they hosted non-conference foe the University of Mary Washington (Va.). Unfortunately for the Bishops, they could not complete their comeback and fell 83-75 in front of a boisterous Everett Gym crowd.

UMW got out to a hot shooting start in the first quarter shooting 64 percent while Wesleyan shot just 40 percent as the Lady Eagles led 22-14 after the first. UMW's shooting then dropped off in the second as each team shot 38 percent with NCWC taking the quarter 22-17 to trail by just 3 at the break, 39-36.

A back and forth third quarter then saw the Eagles take it 19-18 to lead 58-54 heading to the fourth. After Wesleyan would tie the Eagles at 63 with half a quarter to play, the Eagles then went on a 10-2 run to lead 73-65. However, Wesleyan stole the ball off two consecutive inbounds plays to trim their deficit down to 75-72 forcing a UMW timeout. However, the Eagles (3-2) would make all ten of their free throws down the stretch to get the win 83-75 shooting 46 percent for the game overall while holding the Bishops to just 37.5 percent shooting.

Wesleyan did out-rebound the Eagles 49-34 overall and 24-10 on the offensive end.

Forward Vontasia Olds led Wesleyan with 14 points while senior guard Nadiya Holley had 13 points and 8 rebounds. Senior forward Weslie Young then registerd her first double-double of the season as she scored 11 points with 11 rebounds. Senior guard Daijah Davis was also in double-figures scoring 10 points while leading with a season-high 6 assists and 3 steals. Sophomore guard Kayla Johnson also finished with 7 points and 4 assists with guard Keorra Taylor adding 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists as well.

The Bishops fall to 1-4 on the season and next return to action on Sunday when they travel to Guilford College (NC) to face their in-state rival at 2 PM.
