Guilford holds off Bishop women

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team dropped their non-conference road game at Guilford College on Sunday afternoon 70-55.

A low-scoring first half saw the Bishops shoot just 13% as they scored only 14 points in the half while Guilford also struggled, but led 28-14 at the break shooting 48%.

A more high-scoring second half followed with the Bishops scoring at least 20 points in each quarter, but dropping the half 42-41 as their rally fell short in the end. The Bishops shot 52% in the second half while GC shot 51 percent overall and 45 percent from three-point range. 

Wesleyan shot 32 percent for the game led by 11 points from sophomroe Cydney Nichols and nine more from junior forward Vontasia Olds off the bench. The duo also combined for 5 rebounds and 5 steals with Olds leading the team with three. Sophomore guard Kayla Johnson also added 8 points with a steal while the Bishops struggled from three making just two total on the day from Johnson and Olds.

Senior guard Nadiya Holley also led the team with nine rebounds along with 2 steals and 4 points while fellow senior Daijah Davis led with 3 assists. Senior forward Weslie Young also had 7 points, 6 boards and a block on the day.

Wesleyan fall to 1-5 on the year and will next return home to host CNU (Va.) on Thursday evening at 6 PM.
