Women's Basketball Rolls Past Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team picked up their first conference win of the season on Wednesday night by ousting Pfeiffer University (N.C.) 70-59 on the road behind a season and career high 26 points and 5 three-pointers from sophomore guard Cydney Nichols.

Sophomore guard Javana Jones also had an impressive game as she recorded a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds (7 offensive) to lead the Bishops. Wesleyan outscored the Falcons 22-11 in the third quarter which was the turning point in the game as they led just 30-29 at halftime. NCWC also won the half 40-30 shooting 43 percent while Pfeiffer was held to just 16 percent shooting in the third quarter. Wesleyan shot 40 percent overall for the game and made 9 more baskets than the Falcons as well (28-19). Wesleyan also out-rebounded the Falcons 50-34 and an impressive 23-7 on the offensive end.

Also playing well for the Bishops was senior guard Daijah Davis with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block while fellow guards Kayla Johnson and Jermaiyah Baker also scored 7 points apiece with Johnson adding 2 blocks and 2 rebounds and Baker adding a block and a steal. Nichols also tied for the team lead with 3 steals while she shot 5 of 7 from behind the arc.

Wesleyan improves to 2-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the win while Pfeiffer falls to 2-2 and 0-1 in the USA South.

The women now return home to host William Peace University (4-4) (NC) on Friday evening at 6 PM in their final home game of the first semester.
