Strong First Half Propels Women Past Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. -The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team rolled to a big conference win over William Peace University 82-62 on the road Friday evening.

The women got out to a huge first quarter lead by shooting 55 percent to lead 34-13 after one. Wesleyan then held the Pacers to just 26 percent shooting in the second quarter en route to outscoring them 21-14 to lead 55-27 at the break.

Wesleyan would then take their foot off the gas in the second half as Peace would take it 35-27 but the Bishops would cruise to a 20-point win.

Senior shooting guard Kayla Johnson led the Bishops with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals while fellow senior guard Cydney Nichols scored 13 points and a team and season best 6 steals.

Sophomore forward Kayrisma Harrison also played well shooting 7 of 10 from the floor for 14 points and 6 rebounds. Fellow forward, senior Kneciya Tripp led the team with 9 rebounds along with 9 points and 2 steals while senior guard Keorra Taylor led the team with 7 assists.

Junior forward Javana Jones also scored 7 points with 6 rebounds and a block as the Bishops shot 40 percent overall for the game.

Wesleyan improves to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in the conference while dropping Peace to 2-1.

The women will next return home on Sunday to host Peace at 2 PM.
