Wesleyan Women Rout Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team rolled to a big 33-point road win over conference foe Greensboro College on Friday night.

The Bishops were led by a season-high of 31 points and four 3-pointers from senior shooting guard Kayla Johnson.

Wesleyan improves to 7-1 overall with the win and 5-0 in the USA South conference.

After a tight first quarter that saw the rivals tied at 13, the Bishops then cranked up the pressure in the second quarter as they exploded for 30 points to blow out Greensboro 30-11 and take a 43-24 halftime lead.

NCWC then kept up the offensive pressure again scoring 31 points in the third quarter to outscore the Pride 31-15. They took a 74-39 lead into the final quarter where they put up 20 more points.

Wesleyan shot 40 percent for the game and 80 percent from the free throw line while out-rebounding the Pride 48-37 led by sophomore Kayrisma Harrison's 10 rebounds. Harrison also scored 12 points for a double-double. Freshman forward Johnay Goddard also added 10 points off the bench on 4 of 5 shooting.

Freshman G/F Nadia Simmons also had a good night with 7 points and 8 rebounds with two steals. Seniors Myrayna Watkins and Cydney Nichols combined for 14 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals. Nichols also led the team with a season-high of 8 assists and 4 steals.

 The Bishops and Pride (1-4) will finish their weekend series on Sunday at 2:00 PM back in Rocky Mount.
