N.C. Wesleyan Claims USA South Women's Basketball East Division Championship

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Due to the ramifications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the cancelation of the Division III NCAA Basketball tournament, the USA South is conducting divisional basketball tournaments. There will be no overall Conference champion this season.

The 2021 USA South Women's Basketball East Division championship game, which was to be played on March 6th in Rocky Mount, North Carolina pitting top-seed, and host, N.C. Wesleyan against second-seeded William Peace was cancelled. As the highest-remaining seed, N.C. Wesleyan is declared the tournament champion.

The Battling Bishops, led by head coach Artina Trader and assistant coach Dez Driver, had an historically great season this year going unbeaten in conference play at 12-0 and remaining unbeaten all year against D-3 competition, with their only loss coming to D-1 NC Central back in January.

The 15-1 Bishops also had a win over D-1 foe UNC-Greensboro in December as well. This is Wesleyan's first tournament championship since 1999 and first regular season title since 1994 when that team went 20-8.

NCWC has now recorded a combined 34-7 record over the past two seasons.
