Rocky Mount, N.C. - Sophomore Connor Wright tallied a career-high seven goals, but it would not be enough as her N.C. Wesleyan lacrosse teamed suffered a 20-13 defeat at the hands of Huntingdon College on Tuesday afternoon at Scalf Field. Wright's seven goals are the second highest single-match total in program history.

After falling behind 14-5 at the half, the Bishops watched the Hawks (6-4) net the first two scores of the second half for a 16-5 HC advantage with 18:57 remaining. It was then that Wesleyan caught fire, reeling off seven unanswered goals to pull to within four, 16-12, at the 6:54 mark. Wright had four of Wesleyan's goals during the run.

Huntingdon bounced back for a trio of scores, two of which came on free position shots, to essentially put the game out of reach. Wright managed one more goal for the Bishops with 46 seconds left to secure a season-high 13 goals for the team.

In addition to Wright, Jade Gold added a pair of scores, while Laine Hicks had a goal and two assists. Tikeyah Shaw, Ashley Marks and Haley Hopkins rounded out Wesleyan's scoring column.

The Hawks held a 28-20 advantage in ground balls and a 19-16 edge in draw controls. Bishop goalie Marissa Santos recorded a solid 18 saves on the day.

The Bishops return to action this weekend when they welcome USA South opponents Piedmont and LaGrange to Scalf Field. Friday's match versus PC is slated for a 1:00pm start, followed by an 11:00am start on Saturday versus the Panthers.

Wesleyan will be honoring Senior Day prior to Saturday's match.
