Roanoke, Va. - Head Coach Bridget Walker earned her first collegiate coaching victory on Wednesday afternoon as her NCWC women's lacrosse team knocked off Hollins University by an 11-5 score on the road. Freshman Alexandra Cucinotta led the Bishops with a career-high seven goals and 16 draw controls.

Cucinotta got Wesleyan on the board just 18 seconds into the match when she won the opening draw and tallied an unassisted score. Ariana Aysanoa made it 2-0 with a free position goal three minutes later, and after Hollins cut the lead in half, Cucinotta and Samantha Valeros used back-to-back scores to extend NCWC's lead to 4-1. Hollins again answered with a single score, but the Bishops closed out the half with three unanswered tallies -- two by Cucinotta and the last by Carlie Pascale with only five seconds remaining in the period.

Wesleyan went on to out-score HU 4-3 in the second half to close out the program's first victory of the season. Cucinotta notched three of the scores, two on free position shots, while Valeros' added her second goal of the day. Junior Sydney Smith did the rest in goal, notching 14 saves to seal her first win in net.

Statistically, NCWC out-shot Hollins 40-27 on the day and controlled all but one draw. The Bishops also were successful on a season-best 21-of-24 clears and collected a season high 38 ground balls to HU's 27. Cucinotta recorded 12 of those ground balls, with Aysanoa adding nine.

For Hollins, goalie Delaney Waller racked up 17 saves on the day.

Wesleyan (1-8) returns to USA South play on Saturday at Greensboro College. The match is slated for a 2:00pm start.
