Wesleyan Wins Fourth Straight to Secure 10th Victory

LaGrange, Ga. - For the first time in over a decade, the North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer team has secured a winning season. The Battling Bishops did so over the weekend with a pair of dominating 4-0 victories at USA South foes Huntingdon and LaGrange, giving the Bishops a 10-5-1 overall record. The wins also run the team's current win streak to four matches... a span that has seen NCWC out-score its opponents 17-0.

At Huntingdon on Saturday, Logan Bill, Sarah Olsowski and Rebecca Staylor scored a trio of goals in the first 11 minutes for an early 3-0 lead. Freshman Cissi Edehult assisted Bill's goal in the 6th minute, which proved to be the eventual gamewinner.

Edehult later assisted on a Jade Gold score at the 72:34 mark to end the scoring. NCWC keepers Sarah Hovis and Vanessa Batchelor did the rest in goal, each making one save en route to the combined shutout.

At LaGrange on Sunday, the Panthers and Bishops fought through a scoreless opening period. Wesleyan, however, netted three goals in a 1:11 span early in the second half to pull away. Staylor got the Bishops going a with a pair of goals at 54:18 (from Bill) and 55:01 (from Julia Rebellon). Olsowski then got in on the action with a score at 55:29 (from Bill).

Freshman Diamond Ridgeway rounded out the scoring with her first career goal in the 89th minute, assisted by Shayla Thorne. Hovis again earned the partial shutout in net, splitting time with fellow freshman Ashley Major.

The ten victories on the season are the most since 2001. More importantly, the Bishops now boast a 6-3-1 mark in USA South play heading in to Wednesday's regular season finale at Meredith. The match is slated for a 6:00pm start in Raleigh.
