Rocky Mount, N.C. - Fighting rainy conditions from the start, the Monarchs of Methodist University netted the golden goal in double overtime to down N.C. Wesleyan by a 3-2 score at Scalf Field on Wednesday.

The Bishops twice led in the match, with sophomore Maggie Rankin tallying the game's first score in the 7th minute off an assist from Ella Burkhart. Methodist knotted the match at 1-1 less than two minutes later, but Wesleyan countered with a goal by sophomore Jordan Forbess at the 14:25 mark, her first of the season. Forbess' goal came off a Victoria Burkhart free kick from midfield that was deflected by MU keeper Meghan O'Meara.

NCWC's 2-1 advantage lasted for just ten minutes before a costly Bishop foul set up a Jasmine Newman free kick and assist on Haley Bowle's game-tying score. Wesleyan looked to take the lead just before the break, but Ella Burkhart's free kick deflected off the post to preserve the halftime tie.

MU out-shot NCWC 11-4 in the second half, but Bishop keeper Ashley Major's seven saves coupled with O'Meara's four for the Monarchs sent the game to OT, the first of which was scoreless as well.

In the second overtime, Methodist's Deycasha Miller recorded the only shot needed from 20 yards out.  After the Bishops were unable to clear a ball through the box, Miller blasted a shot to the left of Major that gave MU (2-4, 2-1 USA South) the win... their third OT victory over Wesleyan in the two teams' last four meetings.

Major did her part in the loss, making 11 saves on 22 shots. O'Meara finished with six saves on 11 shots to earn the win.

Wesleyan (3-2-1, 2-1 USA South) continues league play this weekend with road matches at Meredith and Averett on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
