Bishop Women Drop Pair of Matches in USA South Action

Ferrum, Va. / Greensboro, N.C. - The NCWC women's soccer team came up just short in a pair of USA South matches over the weekend, suffering a pair of 1-goal losses on the road at Ferrum and Greensboro.

Friday's match at Ferrum seemed destined for overtime until the Panthers' Payton Stuart found the back of the net in the 89th minute. The Bishops, who out-shot Ferrum 20-14 on the day, managed 14 shots on goal that were all saved by FC goalie Taylor Dodson. NCWC keeper Ashley Major made five stops on the day.

On Sunday, the Bishops battled wet conditions at Greensboro but took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman Cydney Nichols at the 14:34 mark, assisted by Maggie Rankin. The Pride, however, answered two minutes later to knot the score at 1-1, eventually netting the go-ahead score in the 62nd minute. GC goalie Marisa Camuto made five saves to secure the 2-1 victory. The Bishops again out-shot their opponent, 11-9, but unfortunately, dropped its 6th match of the season by a single goal.

Wesleyan (1-9-1, 1-3 USA South) continues conference play on Wednesday at Meredith College. The match is slated for a 6:00pm start.
