Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop women's soccer team stunned division-leading Salem College with a 4-0 shutout on Saturday at Scalf Field. The win snapped the Spirits' 8-match winning streak and moves the Bishops to 2-3 in USA South action.

Junior Jordan Forbess netted what would prove to be the eventual gamewinner in the 17th minute off an assist from Ella Burkhart. Senior Hannah Tolson later made 2-0 Bishops with an unassisted score at the 25:29 mark, and they would take that advantage into intermission thanks to four saves in the period by goalkeeper Ashley Major.

In the second half, junior Maddie Williams and freshman Cydney Nichols tacked on insurance goals with scores in the 68th and 80th minutes, respectively. Nichols assisted on Williams' tally, while Burkhart added her second helper of the match on Nichols' score. Major added two more saves to finish with six on the day and secure the shutout.

An evenly played match throughout, both teams managed 12 shots on the day, with Salem (12-3, 5-1 USA South) holding a slim 5-3 edge in corners. Spirit keeper Hannah Bullock finished with four stops in net.

Wesleyan travels to league foe Meredith College on Tuesday to take on the Angels at 6:00pm. The match is a make-up of last week's rainout.
