Meredith Pushes Past Lady Bishops

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.- The NC Wesleyan women's soccer team fell 3-1 to conference rival Meredith College (NC) at home Wednesday afternoon.

Meredith got on the board early in the matchup as Jessica Wallace scored in the 8th minute of action. Meredith would take the lead into the half with the shot count even at 5. NCWC also just barely missed a tying goal midway through the first half as well as a great pass from senior forward Madeline Williams to sophomore forward Cydney Nichols was saved by Meredith.

Wallace then scored her 2nd goal of the game in the 63rd minute of the second half before Nichols brought the Bishops to within one with her penalty kick goal in the 78th minute.  It was her 4th goal of the season.

Unfortunately for Wesleyan, Meredith struck again in the 85th minute with a third goal from Wallace. MC would go on to outshoot the Bishops 14-9 with NCWC goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs making a season-high 9 saves on 12 shots. Nichols led the Bishops with three shots on goal in the loss.

NCWC falls to 3-4-1 on the year and 1-1 in the conference with the defeat while Meredith improves to 5-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the USA South.

The Lady Bishops are next in action on Saturday when they head to Salem College for their second meeting this season.
