Lady Bishops Fall to Greensboro

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.- The NC Wesleyan women's soccer team dropped their conference match to undefeated Greensboro College (NC) 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Scalf Field.

Greensboro got out to a fast start scoring less than two minutes into the game on an unassisted strike from the left side.

However, the Battling Bishops came right back with a penalty kick goal from sophomore forward Cydney Nichols, her 5th goal of the season in the 6th minute to tie the match at one. It would remain tied thoughout the first half and through the first 25 minutes of the second half.

Nichols then received another penalty kick in the early moments of the second half with a chance to take the lead for the Bishops, but her shot was saved by the Pride keeper to keep the game knotted at one.

Greensboro then thought they scored the go-ahead goal later on in the half, but was declared offsides on the play. The Pride, though, then scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 72nd minute of action off a corner kick deflection.

Greensboro outshot the Bishops 17-6 with NCWC goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs making 10 saves on 12 shots.

The Bishops fall to 3-6-1 overall and 1-3 in the conference with the loss while the Pride improve to 12-0 and 4-0 in the USA South.

Wesleyan is next in action on Saturday when they remain home to host Peace on Senior Day at 2 PM.
