  • Modise Coaching Era Ends at NCAA Championships

    North Carolina Wesleyan head men's and women's tennis coach Dominic Modise saw his Battlng Bishop tenure come to an official end on Thursday afternoon at the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships in Cary. Having established NCWC tennis on the national scene over the past five seasons, Modise will now take the helm of the women's program at the University of Southern Mississippi, an NCAA Division I affiliate and member of Conference USA.
  • Athletics Hosts 47th Annual Awards Ceremony

    The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 47th Annual Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 16th, in the Garner Lobby of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2011-2012 season. Among those athletes and teams, NCWC boasted 50 USA South All-Conference selections, three USA South Championships, two Players of the Year, one Coach of the Year and one NCAA tournament berth. Highlighting the night’s winners were the honors given for the Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year, along with the Male and Female Athlete of the Year.
  • NCWC's Title Hopes End with 5-4 Loss in Semifinals

    The women's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan saw its hopes of a first USA South Tournament title come to an end with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Methodist University in Saturday's semifinal action in Burlington. The Bishops, who shared the conference's regular season crown with the Monarchs, nearly overcame a 3-0 doubles deficit but came up one win short in singles play.
  • Modise, Kamegne Top USA South Tennis Awards

    The USA South has announced its postseason awards for men's and women's tennis with a total of 55 student-athletes being named to their respective All-Conference teams. North Carolina Wesleyan, whose men claimed a fourth straight regular season title and whose women clinched a share of their first league crown, boasted 13 honorees. Head Coach Dominic Modise paved the way with his fourth consecutive Coach of the Year honor in men's tennis, while freshman Yvonne Kamegne was tabbed the league's Rookie of the Year on the women's side.

    For the first time in program history, the North Carolina Wesleyan women's tennis team has captured a share of the USA South Regular Season Title! The Bishops did so by tallying a thrilling 6-3 victory over Methodist University on Monday afternoon at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Complex.

    North Carolina Wesleyan surrendered just one game over six singles matches and two games in doubles play en route to a dominating 9-0 sweep of Mary Baldwin on Friday afternoon. The USA South win leaves the Bishops with a 7-1 conference mark heading into Monday's regular season finale with Methodist.

    The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for April 2nd, and North Carolina Wesleyan had two freshmen recognized. Hatteras Brooks of baseball was tabbed the league's Rookie Pitcher of the Week, while Michelle Hart was named Rookie of the Week in women's tennis.

    In this weekend's women's tennis action, the Battling Bishops captured a trio of USA South victories with 9-0 sweeps of Ferrum, Greensboro and Averett. Wesleyan has now won five straight matches to even its overall record at 7-7. Most importantly, NCWC moves to 6-1 in league play, which keeps the Bishops' regular season title hopes alive!

    For the first time in program history, the North Carolina Wesleyan women's tennis team knocked off Christopher Newport University, doing so in convincing fashion on Tuesday afternoon with a dominating 7-2 victory on the Captains' home court.
