USA South Announces Postseason Awards in Women's Tennis

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its postseason awards in women's tennis, and North Carolina Wesleyan is pleased to announce that five Battling Bishops have garnered recognition.

Senior Florencia Sorrentino led the way as an East Division First Team selection after anchoring top-seeded doubles and singles for the Bishops this spring. The native of San Lorenzo, Argentina posted a 5-2 record versus USA South opponents at #1 singles, and she teamed with freshman Louise Hovhammer for a 5-1 mark in league action at top doubles. Sorrentino, in fact, recently broke the NCWC program record for career doubles wins and currently boasts 35 victories over her four-year career. Her First Team East Division honor is the second straight for Sorrentino, who also represented Wesleyan on the league's All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Battling Bishops had four players garner East Division Second Team accolades as junior Stephany Barbera was joined by freshmen Talitha Rowan, Giulia Zanetti, and Hovhammer as honorees. The four combined to go 21-1 in singles play against conference foes this spring, while in doubles, they boasted a combined 17-3 USA South mark.

Elsewhere around the league, Averett's Heidi Sarkkinen earned Player of the Year, Piedmont's Caroline Connelly was named Rookie of the Year, and her coach, Shane Wood, collected Coach of the Year accolades.
