Abdulloeva Finishes as Runner-Up at Women's ITAs

ATLANTA, GA- NC Wesleyan freshman Fariza Abdulloeva of Uzbekistan led the Lady Bishops over the weekend at the ITA South Women's Regionals by finishing 2nd in the main draw at Emory University (Ga.).

Abdulloeva qualified for the quarterfinals of the 48 person draw by winning her first 2 matches in straight sets. She then won her next two matches in three sets over Emory University ladies before falling in the finals to Emory's top player in three tough sets. Fariza dropped the first set in the finals 4-6 before winning 6-0 in the second set. She then dropped the decisive set 6-1 to Ysabel Gonzalez to finish 2nd, but went 4-1 in the tournament.

Her teammate, freshman Milena Amedieva also advanced to the quarterfinals of the main draw before falling to Emory. 

Also winning titles over the weekend in the smaller singles draws were sophomore Julianna Johnson winning the Flight C Bracket by dominating in straight sets to go 3-0 for the title winning 6-2, 6-4 in the finals. The Wesleyan ladies also dominated the Flight D bracket by putting two players into the finals with sophomore Sahar Guermah taking it over her doubles teammate, sophomore Ana Aguilar, in straight sets. Each lady won three bouts as well.

Finally, the doubles team of Johnson and sophomore Louise Hovhammer advanced to the Flight B semifinals before bowing out of the tournament to lead the way in doubles results over the weekend. 

  

The Ladies next return home this weekend to host the NC Wesleyan Fall Invitational from Oct. 5-7.
