NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team fell 9-0 on the road at Christopher Newport University on Thursday.

"Tough loss, but our ladies fought hard against a strong nationally ranked CNU team," commented assistant coach Matt Rowe. "Stefanie and Elisa were awesome in their singles matches and just came up short. Giulia and Tali played a tough team in doubles and lost in a hard-fought tiebreaker."

That doubles match that Rowe was speaking off consisted of seniors Talitha Rowan and Giulia Zanetti falling 8-7 as they dropped the match in a tight tiebreaker at #2 doubles. The top doubles team of freshmen Stefanie Wilske and Elisa Mariotti then fell 8-5 at the top line.

USA South Rookie of the Week Mariotti had the most heartbreaking loss of the day falling 10-7 in the third set super tiebreak after splitting the first two sets 2-6, 6-3. Wilske then also lost in three sets at the top line 4-6, 6-2, 4-6. Zanetti and Freshman Julie Schoorsmans also lost 6-3, 6-1 in their respective singles matches.

The Lady Bishops fell to 3-5 on the season with the loss while CNU improved to 3-1. Wesleyan will return to action tomorrow as they stay in the Virginia area to face D-1 Norfolk Statea at Noon.
