McLain Powers Bishops to 3-1 Victory over Methodist

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Freshman Emily McLain tallied ten kills and five blocks to lead her N.C. Wesleyan volleyball squad to a 3-1 USA South win over Methodist University on Tuesday night in Everett Gym. Set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 14-25 and 27-25.

The first two sets were tightly contested with the Bishops holding a slight 28-26 edge in kills. Seven of McLain's kills were recorded during that span, while freshman Samantha Morton led the defensive effort with six blocks.

Methodist (9-8, 5-2 USA South) found life in the third set, racing out to a 9-1 lead and eventually securing the 25-14 win.

The Monarchs proceeded to force a pair of set points in the fourth after taking a late 24-22 lead. An MU attack error followed by a Kayla White kill, however, knotted the set at 24-24, while a pair of unforced errors by the Monarchs allowed Wesleyan to steal the set and match, 27-25.

Sophomore Tori Stewart finished with a team-best 13 kills, while libero Christina Huber turned in stellar performance with a match-high 28 digs. As a team, Wesleyan dominated the net with 23 blocks (2 solo, 20 assists) to the Monarchs' six (2 solo, 4 assists).

Wesleyan (3-12, 2-5 USA South) returns to action on Saturday at a league Play Day hosted by LaGrange College.
