Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's volleyball team played its first home match of the 2015 season on Tuesday night in Everett Gym, rallying late but falling just short versus league-leading Meredith, 3-1. Set scores were 25-10, 25-17, 28-30 and 26-24.

The Bishops struggled offensively in the first two sets, recording negative hitting percentages in both en route to a 2-0 deficit in the match. In the third set, Meredith seemped poised to secure the sweep, forging a 24-17 advantage. The Bishops, however, had other ideas.

Facing seven match points, Wesleyan found a spark behind the serving of junior Evie Hunter that enabled the Bishops to claw their way back into the match. Tied 24-24, MC's Karlie Long and NCWC's Tori Stewart traded kills on four straight points before an Angel attack error opened the door for the Bishops. Two kills by sophomore Samantha Morton sandwiched a Meredith point, and Wesleyan's Emily McClain was able to seal the improbable come-from-behind win with a solo block.

The fourth set again saw MC (9-5, 4-0 USA South) pull away late, 23-19. Wesleyan proceeded to reel off five of the next six points to again force extras. Unfortunately, the Angels would not be denied a second time, recording back-to-back kills to seal the victory and remain perfect in USA South play.

After their slow start, the Bishops rebounded to post 35 kills against just six errors over the final two sets, good enough for a .382 hitting percentage down the stretch. Stewart led NCWC with 13 kills and completed the double-double with 12 digs. Hunter finished with eight kills and 11 digs.

MC's Long led all players with 19 kills on the night.

Wesleyan (3-7, 0-3 USA South) continues league play on Thursday at William Peace. Match time is set for 7:00pm in Raleigh.
