Danville, Va. - Wesleyan's volleyball picked up its first win of the season on Saturday at the Averett Invitational, sweeping Emory & Henry College by a 3-0 score. The Bishops later dropped a 3-1 decision to Randolph College, then suffered a pair of heart-breaking 3-2 matches to Salve Regina and Guilford on Sunday. Both contests featured 2-point decisions in the fifth and deciding sets.

Against E&H, the Bishops celebrated their first victory of the season by 25-21, 29-27, and 28-26 scores. Senior Tori Stewart managed a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs, while libero Christina Huber turned in a season-high 34 digs.

After a 3-1 loss to Randolph on Saturday evening (25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18), Wesleyan played an early morning match against a talented Salve Regina squad on Sunday. After falling behind 2-0 with 25-19 and 25-22 losses in the first two sets, NCWC battled back for 25-21 and 25-19 wins in the third and fourth to tie the match. The Bishops proceeded to go up 14-11 in the fifth set, but SVC fought off a trio of match points to eventually steal the 17-15 win. Junior Emily McLain paced NCWC with a team-high 14 kills in the match.

Looking to rebound from the tough loss, the Bishops went up 2-0 on Guilford before seeing the Quakers battle back for the 3-2 win (25-14, 25-18, 22-25, 18-25, 13-15). Freshman Autumn Spence's career-high 13 kills led all Wesleyan players.

The Bishops return to action on Wednesday night when they host Mid-Atlantic Christian University. Their 2016 home opener is slated for a 7:00pm start in Everett Gym.
