Rocky Mount, N.C. - Sophomore Autumn Spence racked up a season-high 15 kills to help lead her N.C. Wesleyan volleyball squad to a 3-0 sweep of Johnson & Wales University on Thursday night in Everett Gym. Set scores were 25-11, 25-15, and 26-24.

The Bishops raced out to a 2-0 lead in the match with dominating performances in the first two sets. Freshman Callie Cline tallied a trio service aces in the opener to set the tone early, and the Bishops went on to score 10 of the set's final 11 points to secure the 25-11 win. Set two mirrored the first, with Wesleyan closing it out with an 8-3 run.

In the third set, however, the Wildcats (4-7) rebounded for their best showing of the night with 12 kills. JWU actually forged a late 22-20 lead, but kills from freshman Augusta Preston and Spence sandwiched another Cline ace to give the Bishops a 23-22 advantage. The Wildcats managed to earn the next two points to force set point at 24-23 only to see the Bishops push three straight to seal the match -- a kill by Spence, a solo block from senior Emily McLain, and a service ace from sophomore Hannah Huls.

In addition to Spence, Cline turned in a solid all-around performance with 7 kills, 5 aces, and a match-high 16 digs. Freshman Amanda Yates added 6 kills of her own, while McLain finished with 6 blocks.

Wesleyan (2-5) returns to action at home on Tuesday night when the Bishops open USA South play versus William Peace University. The match is slated for a 7:00pm start in Everett Gymnasium.
